Context: Notes Kaleb kept as birthing partner for Mindy's labor. Teddy has since been born.
Pre Labor
Be able to distract the laboring partner โ walk, movie, take her out
Backache: relaxation, bath, massage, nap
Rotate between active fun and restful activities
Time contractions for 4โ5, then let it be and check in later
Early Labor
Blood on tissue or snotty substance = mucus plug
Validate feelings, remind her of the positive experience
"Where was your mind on that last contraction?"
Start breathing and swaying with her, encourage
Approaching Active Labor
5-1-1 or 4-1-1 โ go to hospital
Stay close, keep the presence
She may be quiet โ tune into the vibe, mimic actions
Bring back to controlled breathing
Active Labor
Releasing control if she's feeling safe
Don't ask questions during contractions
Comforting touch, counter pressure, shower or bath
Transition
Hardest part, but shortest โ the end is in sight
~9cm dilated; contractions practically on top of each other
"I have to poop"
Light touch is ANNOYING โ hold tightly on legs or shoulder
Pushing and Birth
Help mom tune into her body; listen for pushing or resting urge
Breathe while pushing โ holding breath leads to tearing
